Finding Partners for your Library Grant
Many grant applications are often stronger when there is a partnership among organizations. Partners can bring unique skills and knowledge to a grant project and they can provide access to an expanded audience for your project.
Identifying the best partners though is not always easy. You do not want to enter into a partnership on a grant application if goals between partners differ, or if a clear delineation of tasks and a communication plan is not established.
As you work on your grant applications here are some tips for identifying partners:
Identify organizations who have the same vision as you.
Find organizations that compliment the work you do.
Find organizations that fill in gaps in your own work and/or knowledge.
Locate organizations that expand your reach.
When evaluating potential partners consider:
What is the organization’s track record with public trust?
What is the public image of the organization you are considering partnering with?
What skills will the individuals in the organization bring to the grant?
Do the individuals in the organization have a collaborative mentality?
Potential partners for library grants include:
Local K-12 schools
Universities
Non-profits
Museums
Historical societies
After-school programs
